A Day in Honour of our Country

Happy Birthday Canada!  And what a wonderful day it has been.    Before I tell you about our day, do you remember the bird house in one of our trees?  The one that has the bird’s nest in it.  Well, if you look closely at the photo you should be able to see the eggs.

Okay, our day began with a trip to our local Canada celebration.  Miss E was playing with the band.  In fact, today was also the first time that she is marching with the band.  She did so very well and really enjoyed herself.

After she was done, it was time for treats, skee ball and crafts.  Plus, Miss K went with her Grandma to watch Elvis Stojko preform at the arena.  Apparently the show was well worth it and they enjoyed themselves immensely.

Next it was home for some exercise.  Yesterday Miss E asked me to take the training wheels off of her bike.  Today she decided that it was time to give it a go and, with the help of a gyroscopic front wheel, she was successful.  Give her about two weeks and I think that she will be riding a two wheeler proper.

The day drew to a close with fireworks.  Miss K went off on her bike with a friend and her family while I took Miss E with me.  Miss K just got home after enjoying some late night sparklers to top of the ride while Miss E asked to go home in the middle of the fireworks because she was just too tired.

Pan Am Torch Relay

Yes, I know that I am developing a very bad habit of making multiple posts in one night but I have not been feeling 100% so I am trying to take advantage of my downtime when not feeling blaah.  Hopefully I will be able to break the pattern in the coming weeks.)

On Wednesday night it was Miss E’s band night.  As luck would have it, her band practises at the same location as the PanAm Torch Relay.  So…we managed to squeeze both in which means that we got to see Elvis Stojko!  Happy mom and happy child.

Big Top Fun

Kicked the summer off with a visit to the circus.  Both girls loved it and we spent an evening together full of smiles.  You know that you are a mom when during each of the aerials acts I was thinking please don’t fall, your mother would be so sad.  Sigh, had fun nonetheless.

Waiting for it to begin.

Strawberries and Water

Just before my allergies hit with allergies (got to love tree pollen) we had a bit of outdoor fun…Strawberries.  Big, juicy, red goodness and two happy girls plus a fridge and freezer full of berries. Oh and we also went back to the splash pad.

An SK Graduate

Our Little Miss E is almost a Grade 1 and that means her years in Kindergarten are drawing to a close.  Of course, the end of Kindergarten brought with it a graduation.  Sadly neither Glenn nor I were able to rearrange our schedules to attend.  :(  Luckily Auntie Karen and Cousin Dalia were able to attend.  This resulted in a rather happy little girl (as you can see in the photos).  Two months and then off to Grade 1!

Splashpad Fun

I bring you some big news.  Our Miss E went in a splash pad.  In fact, she got completely and utterly soaking wet!

When she told me that she wanted to go in the splash pad I thought why not…how wet can she get.  I mean, the past four summers she has barely stuck her toes in.  That has changed.  She ran, she jumped, she smiled, she laughed and got thoroughly soaked.  I brought a delightfully wet little girl home this afternoon.

Yippee!!! This may just turn out to be the summer of the splashpad.

Elvis has left the building

We started off June with a celebration. Grandpa turned 70 or as he said, he is aged like a fine scotch.

The day started with dad and Scott out in the backyard with the kids and Scott’s new metal detector.  They had a lot of laughs and the kids really worked hard digging but they didn’t find anything.  However, the hole that they dug ended up being useful for the putting practise that followed.

In the evening it was off to PARTY with family, friends and Elvis.  It was a blast. (As the pictures show)  We got to dance, eat and most importantly visit with great entertainment.

Happy birthday!

Dinner a la girls

We were lucky to celebrate a later Mother’s Day this past weekend with Glenn’s mom and the icing on the cake was a delicious dinner planned and cooked (mostly by the kids).  The two misses decided on the menu, helped to pick out all of the elements and then had to put it all away; which was their least favourite part and who can blame them.  What was on the menu?  Maple plank salmon from the barbeque, mashed sweet potatoes, grilled asparagus, carrots and broccoli.  Oh, they also figured out dessert – berries on sponge with cream.  Originally they wanted to make the cake themselves but we had to say no because we don’t have a good GF sponge recipe.

Miss E was thrilled to get to chop the produce under Grammy’s supervision.  Miss K is old hat at the chopping bit.  This time though she tried something new.  Glenn got her helping to cook the asparagus and fish on the barbeque.  She was tickled pink.  If I am honest, so was I.  I can see in the future the potential to not have to cook every single dinner!!! Yippee!!

Enjoying the weather

Glenn had the girls out enjoying the sun this weekend.  Miss K is really enjoying her new bow.  Maybe one day she will graduate to archer but until then she is all smiles as she shots trees with foam.  Miss E has been using the nice weather to practise her skipping and skateboarding.  Hope that you have had a chance to enjoy the sunshine as well.

Long Weekend

What a fun weekend!

It began with me getting to watch Katrine skate.  That was really nice as I haven’t got to see her in a while.  Just to satisfy your obvious skating withdrawal (I mean, obviously you miss it to), here are some photos.

Then it was off to my parents where Glenn was put to work.  (Doesn’t he look cute in his hard hat?)  Anyways, he, dad and Scott spent Saturday re-shingling the garage. Way to work guys!! The kids jumped on the trampoline while us ladies took care of some shopping for dad’s up coming birthday and Miss K’s bridge building project (Yup, even more straws.  This should be one heck of a bridge.).  We ended our stay with cake in honour of Miss V’s birthday and some sparklers.

The next day saw Miss K at a China sister sleepover and Miss E at the park.  This produced two very happy girls and two relaxed parents.  Overall a great weekend.
