Yes, I am excited. We are not going to be able to go and see the movie for a few days yet but I can’t help but be super pumped. Star Wars was my very first movie and my dad took Scott and I to it. What kid wouldn’t love a walking talking teddy bear as well as space ships and explosions? Throw in an enthusiastic brother and cousin and I was totally hooked. It is going to be awesome.
First came the nails. Then Glenn brought home the hats. This rocks.
Elspeth is in her second year of Sparks and is absolutely loving it. They have been very busy this year so far. Can’t wait to see what happens for the rest of her time in Sparks.
I use to be a whiz at pastry. My mom taught me how to make regular pastry by hand years ago and it was awesome. It was flaky and tasty. Delicious. Then came the diagnosis and poof –  away went my ability to make yummy pies. Over the years I have tried so many different recipes and nothing worked. Then I saw a post on a Celiac Group that has allowed me to recapture my pastry making days. I made sugar pie and it was delicious and flaky.
Girls even started to help. A special thank you to the person who shared that rolling out the pastry in between parchment paper makes all of the difference. It rolled beautifully and baked up just as nicely.Pie filled and all ready to go into the oven.Doesn’t it look yummy?See? Is was so good that there is none left.
It has been a while but here is what we have been up to.
Since the last post Glenn took the girls to see the local Santa Claus parade.
We closed out November by doing a reading at church and lighting the first candle of the advent wreath and then a craft dinner at our church. This annual event is one of the girls favourite Christmas events. We do Christmas crafts, eat dinner together and then enjoy a small service where we prep the manager for the arrival of Baby Jesus.
Then we went to the orthodontist because we thought that it might be time for Katrine’s brace experience to begin. As you can tell from the photo she was totally heartbroken. 🙂
We also went out for dinner.
We also helped to decorate Grammy’s new place much to the delight of the girls.
Then we finished up a youth group outing, ceramic painting and with a gluten free baking day; but that is another post.
We spent this morning at our local Remembrance Day Parade. Elspeth’s band was playing and this was her first fall marching parade. To top it off, she was given a very special honour. She was asked, as the youngest band member, to assist with the laying of the band’s wreath at the cenataph. I am not sure that she grasped the full honour of what she was being asked to do but nonetheless, she was calm and well behaved during the service as well as when laying the wreath. She remembered everything that we had practised at home and we were all pretty proud of her.
Going to lay the wreath.
The service was wonderful and provided a dignified thank you to our veterans past and present. Thank you for all that you have done to help preserve our freedom and rights. I thank you for myself and my children. We all wear our poppies proudly and I hope that they are growing up to understand the cost of those freedoms and rights. Thank you.
The first part of this post is a thank you to two people who made my work day Halloween-tastic. Ms. B thank you for the gummies which will allow me to not steal from my kids. And then one of my awesome parents made a GF, dairy free cupcake special for me and it was delicious.
Last night I took Elspeth to the Halloween skate with a friend. They had a blast, got to dress up, skate and have some candy. What more could there be? It was a good end to a day with class parties and school parades.
Isn’t this a cute idea? The teachers at school all dressed up as dominos.
The pumpkins are ready, seeds toasted and soon we will be off to trick or treat. Have a wonderful and safe night.
Here is our little with her brand new, fabulous drumstick cozies. Rainbow coloured no less!!! Look how happy she is. A great birthday present made by a great friend.
Both girls had events this afternoon so Glenn and I had to split up. Glenn took our Katrine to skate and she killed it. Watching the video she got on the ice wanting to win and that is exactly how she skated. Got her best score thus far this season!! Glenn’s phone was acting up so we only have the DVD he purchased but here she is with her medal.
Elspeth performed with her band this afternoon at the local theater. Last year she managed to do one set with them but this year she did both sets and the finale. There were a few times where she got lost but then she would look beside her and get back on track.
After a fun day out with some old friends we stopped for some lunch. They gave me the perfect chance to try Wahlburgers. I have wanted to try their burgers for a while but never had the chance. Yesterday I got the chance to try one of their burgers and it was mighty tasty as was the side of Yukon gold fries. Topped it off with their absolutely decadent truffle cookie and great company. Altogether it made for a wonderful end to a day out.
